The Author

Like Bertie, I was educated at Dulwich College. I graduated from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School (now Imperial College), to pursue a career in medicine during which I published original medical papers on the Southall Riots, Child Accident Prevention, Accidental Poisoning, and Asthma. I retired just before the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

During the lockdown I concluded my twenty-year research project into Bertie's life. Using his letters I published this ebook in late 2021. The book is illustrated with many of his photographs, maps, and other documents including the Somme panorama from 1916.
